PGN Pocket Privacy Policy
Last updated: 8 August 2026
This policy explains what data the PGN Pocket application ("the app") processes,
for what purposes, and who it is shared with. We want it to be clear and honest: we only process
what the app needs in order to work, and we do not sell your data.
This English text is a translation provided for convenience. The binding version
is the Spanish original, available at
pgnpocket.ia-helper-tools.com/privacidad.html.
In the event of any discrepancy between the two, the Spanish text prevails.
1. Who the data controller is
PGN Pocket is developed and operated by IA Helper Tools (Francisco López),
a sole trader based in Spain.

2. What data we process
- Account data. If you create an account in order to use the AI features: your
email address and a password (stored encrypted). If you sign in with
Google, we receive your email address, your name and your profile picture from
Google.
- Scoresheet photos. When you use AI transcription, the
photo of the scoresheet you take is sent to our server and from there to our AI
provider (see section 4) to be turned into chess notation. The photos are stored
on your own device; on the server they are only processed transiently in order
to return the transcription to you and are not retained for storage
purposes.
- Your game data. Tournaments, games, moves, comments and settings are stored
locally on your device. They are not uploaded to our servers. You can export
them yourself (as PGN) or let Android back them up to your own Google account
(the system's automatic backup), which is managed by Android and not by us.
- AI usage data. We record which AI calls your account makes (type, date,
tokens and estimated cost) in order to control spending, prevent abuse or fraud, and manage
your subscription.
- Game analysis. If you request an AI analysis of a game, the
PGN of that game is sent to our AI provider in order to generate the
commentary.
- Notification identifier. If you agree to receive notices, we store the push
identifier generated by your phone. It identifies the device, not the person,
and it is deleted as soon as your phone stops accepting notifications (when you uninstall the
app or revoke the permission). If you do not grant the permission, nothing is stored.
- Payments. Subscriptions are charged through Google Play.
Google handles the payment; the app never sees or stores your card details.
3. What we use it for, and the legal basis (GDPR)
- Providing the service you ask for (transcribing, analysing, managing your account) — basis:
performance of a contract.
- Controlling costs, preventing fraud and abuse, and maintaining security — basis:
legitimate interest.
- Sending you essential emails (account verification, password recovery) — basis:
performance of a contract.
- Sending you notices and news about the app (a new feature, a service
incident), by email or as a notification on your phone — basis:
legitimate interest for email, and consent for notifications,
which Android asks you for explicitly and which you can withdraw at any time in your system
settings. They are never third-party advertising. Every email of this kind carries an
unsubscribe link; unsubscribing affects only these notices and not the
essential emails above, without which you could not use your account.
- Complying with legal and tax obligations arising from subscriptions — basis:
legal obligation.
We do not use your data for advertising, and we do not sell it to third parties.
4. Who we share it with (processors)
We only share data with providers who help us operate the app, and only for that purpose:
- Anthropic (Claude): processes the scoresheet photos and the PGN for
transcription and analysis. Under their terms for their API, the data sent
is not used to train their models.
Anthropic's policy.
- Google (Sign in with Google and Google Play Billing): authentication and
charging of subscriptions. Google's policy.
- Resend: delivery of emails (verification, password recovery and the notices
about the app).
- Expo: delivery of notifications to the device. For this we
store a push identifier generated by your phone (it does not identify the person: it identifies
the device) and we delete it as soon as your phone stops accepting them — when you uninstall
the app or revoke the permission. Expo in turn relies on Google's messaging service (FCM).
Expo's policy.
- Render and Neon: hosting of the server and of the accounts
database.
5. Where it is stored, and international transfers
The accounts database is hosted on servers in the European Union. Some providers (such as
Anthropic or Google) may process data outside the European Economic Area, with the
appropriate safeguards provided for by the GDPR (for example, standard contractual clauses).
6. How long we keep it
- Account data: for as long as your account is active. If you delete it, the data is erased
(together with your usage records), except for anything we are required to keep by legal or tax
obligation.
- Scoresheet photos: they live on your device until you delete them (or remove the photo from
the game); they are not retained on the server.
- AI usage records: kept for as long as necessary for cost and fraud control.
7. Security
We use encrypted connections (HTTPS), passwords stored encrypted, and access control over the
data. No system is 100% infallible, but we apply reasonable measures to protect it.
8. Your rights
You may exercise your rights of access, rectification, erasure, objection, restriction
and portability by writing to our contact address. You may also lodge a complaint with the
Spanish Data Protection Agency (Agencia Española de Protección de Datos,
aepd.es) if you consider that we have not dealt with your
request.
9. How to delete your account and your data
You can delete your account and the associated data (email address, name and profile picture,
and usage records) from within the app itself: Settings → Account → "Delete my
account". If you have an active subscription, cancel it in Google Play first. You can also request
it by writing to soporte@ia-helper-tools.com from
your account's email address, stating that you want it deleted. We will act on the request and
erase your account and its data, except for anything we are required to keep by legal or tax
obligation. The data that exists only on your device (your games and the scoresheet photos) you can
delete yourself from within the app or by uninstalling it.
10. Minors
PGN Pocket is not directed at children under 14. If a child uses it (for example, with an account
created by their mother, father or guardian), it is that adult who manages the account and gives
consent. If you believe a child has provided us with data without such supervision, write to us and
we will delete it.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy; we will publish the version in force together with its "last updated"
date. If the change is significant, we will notify you by reasonable means.
